Scala - Its Craftsmen

Scala is one of the names of Larnaka. However it describes best the area along the Castle seafront, Saint Lazarus church and the nearby city quarters. This guided walk starts from the Larnaka Castle at the end of the Palms Trees Promenade, telephone 24304576, every Friday at 10.00 hours. The aim of this walk is to explore the area and visit the Handicraft Workshops created recently by young ceramic artists, most of them, inspired by ancient Cypriot art.

The walk goes through the picturesque streets of traditional houses with kiosks (closed balconies) of the Scala Turkish quarter, where the visitors have the chance to see the present use of this very old residential area, now inhabited by Greek refugees displaced from Famagusta. Starting from the Castle the walk goes from Eski Carsi Street to Buyuk Cami and Said Mehment Aga Streets, where some protected houses with important traditional architecture. It continues on to Ahmet Kenan Street, Zehra, Alamdar, Kurtulus and end at Ak Deniz and Bozkurt Streets, where visits are paid in all artist workshops.
