Four nature trails exist in the mountain area of Machairas forest, Lefkara, Kato Drys and Vavatsinia. Designed by the Cyprus Tourist Organization at places that the Cyprus nature is at its best.
This nature trail starts at Kionia camping site near Vavatsinia, or vise-versa from the Machairas monastery in the direction of Konia. It is 7 klm and it takes 3 hours of walking to complete, passing from the Prophet Elias monastery, where a natural spring can satisfy your thirst.
It starts at the earth road of the Vavatsinia – Konia forest and has a length of 2 klm. Can be walked in one hour. At some stage you will come across the cave of “Athashia”, which is a test excavation for mineral gold known to exist in the area.
It starts from Lefkara on the road to Vavatsinia. At the beginning follows a steep slope to the church of the Metamorphosis of the Savior. It follows a cyclical direction and ends up in the village again after 3klm and 1.5 hours walk. Worth the effort is the panoramic view from the church.
You can take this trail by following the same path towards the Metamorphosis of the Savior church, but detour towards Kato-Drys. This down the slope walk can lead you at the Convent of Saint Minas, which is accepting visitors only the weekdays. Its length is 2.5klm and can be completed in one hour’s walk. |
